In conjunction with the European Parliament Offices in Ireland, I am hosting an event this Friday, June 30th, entitled “Where Lies the Future of Europe?”. The event takes places in the Imperial Hotel, Cork at 5pm.

I am delighted that our new Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney TD will address the meeting, along with Mr. Declan Walsh, School of Law, UCC and Mr. Andy Klom, Head of Political Affairs at the European Commission in Ireland.

The event is centred around the European Commission’s recently published White Paper on the Future of Europe which outlines five options for the EU:

• Should the Union stay as it is?
• Should the Union deal only with trade?
• Should it do much more?
• Should some members move at different speeds?
• What role should the EU play in international security?
