Douglas based T.D. Deirdre Clune has highlighted with local residents and regular users of the Rochestown Road that they only have until the 17th July to make submissions to Cork County Council on their plan for traffic calming and road improvement works on the Rochestown Road.

The current unacceptable state of the Rochestown Road has been a major issue for local residents and regular road users for a number of years. The road which is one of the busiest in Cork has been allowed deteriorate to a totally unacceptable level in recent years.

Cork County Council has now outlined a plan for road improvement and traffic calming for the Rochestown Road. The works will extend from the side entrance of the Douglas Court Shopping Centre along the Rochestown Road for 1.1 km to the entrance of Rochestown Rise.

The project includes drainage works, public lighting, footpaths, cycle tracks, bus lay-bys road resurfacing and traffic calming

The plan can be viewed until the 26th June at the Council’s local office at Marchwood, Rochestown Road. The office is open 9 to 1 and 2 to 5 daily and can be contacted at 021-4898028.

The plan can also be viewed at the Area Engineer’s Office in Carrigaline and in Cork County Hall.

Residents can make submissions on the plan to the County Council, the closing date for such submissions is Friday 17th July 2009.

These proposed works will be dependent on funding being made available for the project.

This project will upgrade a vital piece of our local road network and once complete has the potential to have a positive impact on the day to day life of people living in Rochestown, Passage, Monkstown and the surrounding area. Anyone with an interest in the issue should try to view the plan and make a submission to the Council before the 17th July.
