Cork’s Kino Cinema plays a vital role in making Cork the sophiscated, vibrant and diverse city listed by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 places to visit in 2010. The Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism has now refused to play any role in securing the Kino’s future.

The Government’s decision to transfer the ownership of Spike Island to Cork County Council is a welcome development. For the last five years Spike Island has been neglected by the Government now under the Council’s ownership it will be developed into the major regional tourist attraction it has always had the potential to be.
