Abolishing the Seanad – Enda Kenny’s commitment to meaningful political reform unmatched by other leaders
Filed under: General News , also relevant to: Political Reform, Press Release
Enda Kenny’s commitment to political reform is a courageous stand unmatched by any other political leader.
Everyone in the country, including politicians, has to make sacrifices to get the country back on its feet. We need radical political reform and Enda Kenny is the only political leader with the meaningful reform proposals required. Enda Kenny as Taoiseach would have the courage needed to take on the vested interests and reform politics in Ireland.
Enda Kenny has committed Fine Gael to the most extensive package of political reforms since the foundation of the State. This would see a reduction in the number of TDs, Ministers’ pay and expenses being slashed, and a referendum on the abolition of the Seanad.
Fianna Fáil has, for a decade, presided over the decline of our political institutions. They offer no hope of reform.
And with a quarter of the Green Party’s Oireachtas members appointed to the Seanad by their Fianna Fáil Taoiseach, we cannot expect any support for reform from that quarter.
Only a Fine Gael Government led by Enda Kenny as Taoiseach offers any real hope of meaningful political reform.
