Local TD Deirdre Clune has welcomed the news that a planning application for a new 16 classroom national school in Ballygarvan has been lodged with Cork County Council.

The news that a planning application for a new primary school in Ballygarvan has been lodged with Cork County Council is positive news for all involved in the community’s decade long battle for a new school.

In the decade since Ballygarvan was first promised a new school the population of the area has exploded with a large number of young families moving into the area. In 1998 when the promise of a new school was made Ballygarvan NS had 145 pupils by 2008 it had 265 pupils. The local demand for school places is projected to grow at an increasingly rapid rate in the years ahead.

In recent years Ballygarvan National School has been totally dependent on expensive rented prefabs to provide classrooms and children at the school have lost more and more play area in the school yard to these prefabs.
