Encouraging exports must be part of our economic recovery

I was a guest on Ivan Yates’ Business Matters programme on TV3 on Friday the 14th February 2010, which looked at the role exports will play in our economic recovery.
Irish exporters have an opportunity to play a key role in creating the jobs we need and in bring money into the Irish ecomnomy. From Life Sciences to Financial Services the Irish exporter sector has the potential for growth but to achieve this Government policy needs to be focused on developing the opportunities that exist and encouraging firms that are involved in exporting goods.
Improving our competitiveness is key to enabling Irish exports to compete successfully in the global market place. The Government must play a leading role in dealing with our competitiveness crisis. Positive results in this area would benefit our economy in general but these benefits would be felt even more in the export area.
