I was very disappointed when I questioned the head of the Irish Prison Service about the future of Spike Island at a Public Accounts Committee some weeks ago. The matter is currently being decided by a Government interdepartmental committee led by Minister O'Cuiv. When I raised the matter with the Minister it was clear that his Department and the Government has no interest in the subject. In the absence of any Government willingness to push the matter forward Spike Island will just be left idle which is a terrible short-sighted waste.

I am always looking for help & assistance especially at election time so if you ever want to get involved just email me your contact details.

Deirdre,
I think Spike Island could be like Ellis Island in New York all it needs is a good study to develop it as a tourist attraction. It could also be a stop over point for the proposed Cat river ferries. They spoke about a bridge to spike 30 years ago but it could still happen.Tourism is the biggest thing this country can offer,so we need more outlets because these tourists need new places to go. By the way this is a reply to a letter i got from you 10 years ago about a manhole cover at Blackrock village which was a corporation issue, but that,s in the past now. I am available if you ever require any assistance, best luck with the election,on your side.
                      Regards,
                               Donal Collins.
