Cork is fast becoming a hub for dynamic and cutting edge technology – Clune

Deirdre Clune, MEP for Ireland South, has welcomed the news that 100 new IT jobs are on the way for Cork,

Richard Bruton will visit Cork today, Monday October 6th, for the announcement of 100 IT jobsas SolarWinds expands its European operations in the city. Speaking in advance of the announcement, Deirdre Clune praised the Cork company and its achievements to date,

“The company, which already employs 150 people in the Mahon area of Cork, is an integral part of the Cork business community.Cork is fast becoming a hub for dynamic and cutting edge technology companies that are world class.

“I feel that it is important to encourage our graduates in Cork to opt for Technology, Science, Engineering and Maths based courses at third level. The growth of the technology industry is evident by the amount of job vacancies and growth in the sector in Cork. The drive for continued employment growth in the ICT sector is at the heart of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs.

“Through my previous work in the Seanad and on the Jobs Committee, I have campaigned for the necessary educational reform which will foster innovation as this industry continues to go from strength to strength. I will continue this work as an MEP and have already spoken in the European Parliament on issues of youth unemployment and up skilling our young people.

The announcement coincides with the launch of a 70 million dollar transatlantic investment fund, called ‘Smart-Invest’.
